The exterior of the bookstore combines traditional Beijing architectural styles, and resembles an old quadrangle dwelling. The designers of the bookstore adopted the technique of varying sceneries with changing view-points in Chinese classical gardens to combine the classical garden motif with reading spaces. In addition, they provided novel and unique arch-shaped resting places for readers and utilized simple lines and graphics, streamers, and globes to describe the ancient buildings of Beijing in the bookstore’s children’s library.
